Biography
Val Domingo is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, yoga teacher, and educator based in Brooklyn. They are a founding conductor and social media director of Brooklyn Chamber Players, which presents salon-style concerts of classical and contemporary music. Val also serves as a facilitator of music and yoga with Conjure Arts Collective, curating seasonal pop-up multidisciplinary performances and workshops.
As a Los Angeles-born protégé of Grammy award-winning soloist Richard Yongjae O'Neill, Val made their international debut at the Zodiac Chamber Music Academy and Festival (France) and Incontri in Terra di Siena (Italy). A graduate in Viola Performance at the UCLA Herb Alpert School of Music and the Los Angeles County High School for the Arts, they have also appeared at Music@Menlo, the Montecito International Music Festival, and the Boston University Tanglewood Institute.
A lifelong collaborator, Val has performed and recorded with such artists as Sloppy Jane, Ember Knight, Jasper Shogo Dutz, Concetta Abbate, Jacob Shulman, The Breathing Effect, Tuvia Nicolas, Smiling Beth, and Natasha Agrama. Their solo work spans a full spectrum from spoken word and free improvisation to jazz, rock, electronica and reimagined popular favorites. This eclectic range is represented in their queer community open mic appearances, vinyl DJ sets, monthly chamber music reading sessions, and EP "If/Then" available on Bandcamp.
An evergreen provider of transformative experience, Val received their 200-hour Teacher Training at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Ranch (NY) with continuing education at Séan Johnson's Bhaktify Immersive at Asheville Yoga Center (NC), melding traditional practices in meditation, breathwork, movement, and chant with hybrid approaches to storytelling, music integration, and asana.
Val serves as artist in residence at Merlin's Place.
